High Seas Project Coordinator

Eleanor “Elle” Bent is a New York City native with a BS from Cornell University. She received her master’s in international environmental policy with a specialization in ocean and coastal resource management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Prior to joining Marine Conservation Institute, Elle was a 2024 California Sea Grant Fellow working with the California State Coastal Conservancy and San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority. As the High Seas Project Coordinator at Marine Conservation Institute, Elle is leading the organization’s involvement in the establishment of highly effective marine protected areas (MPAs) on the High Seas following the entry into force of the BBNJ (Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction) Treaty. Elle currently resides in Monterey, California, and enjoys tide pooling, watercolors, and curling up with a good book.
